When people speak about success in America, they often mention hard work, professionalism, and entrepreneurship. But only a few add one more powerful ingredient — compassion. Muhammad Sabir Junagadhwala, a respected CPA, entrepreneur, and philanthropist living in a Chicago Suburb, is one of those rare individuals. His life is a remarkable blend of financial success and deep social purpose.

Sabir arrived in the United States as a young man in 1980s. Like many immigrants in USA, Sabir also started his journey with almost nothing. What he did have was an unshakable belief that dedication and education could change a person’s entire destiny.

I came to the United States with nothing but a suitcase and a dream,” Sabir tells us with a gentle smile.
“Everything I built here came from hard work, late nights, and faith in God.”

A Journey From Struggle to Success
Eventually, through years of long nights and discipline, Sabir became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) — a proud milestone that changed his career forever.

His new qualifications opened doors. He established multiple successful businesses, including financial services, money exchange operations, real estate investments, and job-creating ventures across the United States. His businesses provided opportunities to many American workers and helped support local communities.

Success followed success… yet something was missing. Sabir had achieved the American Dream — but he wanted a new purpose that went beyond money.

A Passion Born from the Heart-
As he neared retirement age, Sabir discovered a calling he never expected: planting and growing trees.

The idea started small — a hobby, something meaningful to do in his free time. But soon, that idea grew into something much deeper and more powerful.
“One day I thought: we spend our lives trying to build wealth, but who is building the earth? Trees bring life — oxygen, beauty, birds, happiness. I felt God put this passion in my heart.”
Sabir was born and raised in Pakistan, mostly connected to the city of Karachi. Even after living in Chicago for more than 40 years, he never forgot his roots. He remembered the neighborhoods he once walked — now suffering from deforestation, heavy heat, and environmental decline.

He saw that many places in Pakistan had lost their greenery. Schools had no shade. Birds had disappeared. The land was thirsty for new life.

So he began planting.

The Birth of a Foundation-
What began as a modest effort soon transformed into a large-scale mission. Sabir decided that this work needed structure, consistency, and professional management. That vision gave birth to the:

Sabir Junagadhwala Welfare Foundation (MSJWF)
His foundation now has dedicated teams in Karachi and Islamabad, distributing trees in schools, urban communities, and neglected lands where no one else is helping.

Children now play under fresh shade, communities breathe cleaner air, and schools look more lively — all because one person decided to care.

“Money builds businesses,” Sabir says.
“But these trees — they build happiness. They build the future.”

Marching Toward One Million Trees
Today, the Sabir Junagadhwala Welfare Foundation (MSJWF) has already surpassed a remarkable milestone — more than 250,000 trees planted across Pakistan. But this is only the beginning. Sabir’s dream is bold and powerful:

“A Million Trees — and far beyond.”
His foundation is steadily expanding its reach into new cities, towns, and villages — from Karachi’s densely populated neighborhoods to open parks and dry school grounds in Islamabad and other regions.
When asked why schools are his highest priority, Sabir expresses this mission with a father’s heart:

“Schools are where our future lives. Children deserve clean air, shade, and a healthy environment. If they breathe better, they learn better.”

Underprivileged schools often have empty courtyards scorched by the sun — no shade for students to stand, no green environment to inspire curiosity. Sabir wants to transform these places into brighter, greener learning spaces.
He believes that when children watch a tree grow — year after year — they gain a sense of responsibility and inspiration. He hopes that many of these young minds will one day continue this mission in their own way.

The Power of a Strong Team
Growing a plantation project of this size isn’t just about planting trees — it’s about maintaining them. Trees need care, watering, protection, and follow-up. This requires a disciplined management structure and a passionate workforce.

Sabir proudly shares that he is blessed with: A highly committed ground team, Volunteers who work tirelessly and Local community members who help protect the plantations.

“I am lucky,” he says. “This is not my project alone.
It’s a project of all those who care for the future and love a Green and Clean environment.”

And he wants this movement to spread — not only within Pakistan but to other underdeveloped countries where children and communities need greenery and hope.

A Legacy Rooted in Kindness
Sabir tells us that when he visits Pakistan for these plantation drives, the joy of the children and the smiles of local people energize him like nothing else.
He loves to visit lands where only dry, cracked earth remains — and then come back months later to find fresh green leaves dancing with the wind, birds singing again, people gathering in happiness, and life breathing back into the soil.

Sabir explains his motivation in simple words:
“We all become doctors, engineers, or CPAs. We earn money and build homes. But if we do not build our soul, what have we truly earned? My foundation feeds my soul.”

He believes every person — especially before retirement — should adopt a social passion.
A purpose that connects them to God, Nature, Community, and their own inner peace.

Service Beyond Borders
While Pakistan is the center of his environmental projects, Sabir’s spirit of service also extends to the United States. Through his businesses and private charitable activities, he supports various community programs, helps families, and encourages young professionals to pursue careers that uplift them and society.

He believes that America gave him opportunity, and he must continue to give back here as well.

Stronger Than Challenges
Sabir also faced health challenges in recent years — a reminder that life is fragile. But instead of slowing down, his passion for planting trees grew stronger.
“When I plant a tree, I feel healthier,” he says.
“Because I know that tree may live for 100 or more years — even when I am gone.”

Advice for the young and people who are closer to retirement
At the end of our conversation, Sabir left us with a powerful message:

“Before you retire, find something good to do for humanity. Build something that outlives you. A tree is a gift that keeps giving — to the earth and to the soul.”
He believes that every act of kindness is a form of worship. And his trees represent thousands of prayers for the generations to come.

Final Thoughts — A Success Story that Gives Back
I have read and written many success stories throughout my career, but Sabir’s journey stands out as one of the most inspiring of all.

It represents what truly makes America exceptional — the land of opportunity. A young accountant arrived in this country with very limited financial support, determined to build a better life. Through discipline, faith, and relentless hard work, he became a successful CPA, an entrepreneur, and a job creator for Americans.

But instead of stopping there…He chose to uplift the world beyond himself. Supporting education, restoring nature and creating opportunities for others to thrive.
His social success now stands proudly beside his financial success. And his biggest wish is simple yet powerful:

“I want my children — and every child — to learn the same three values:
Work hard. Get educated. Find a purpose that helps humanity.”

Muhammad Sabir Junagadhwala’s life tells us that true success is not just what we earn, but what we return to the world.

He is marching toward a million trees — and toward a legacy that will continue to grow long after we are gone.
